Port Arthur mixed martial artist Jose Ceja was defeated in the second round of his Combate Americas fight against Joey Ruquet in Mexico City on Thursday night.
Ceja suffered a cut during a fast-paced first round, and he fell into submission in the second round, according to a Combate spokesperson. Ceja’s record dropped to 4-4 overall, including a 3-2 mark in TV fights.
Azteca America and pay-per-view network UFC Fight Pass carried the fight.
The fight card was the first for Combate held in Mexico. The circuit, founded in 2013, is geared toward a Hispanic fan base and includes mostly Hispanic fighters.
