PORT NECHES — The Port Arthur Sertoma Club may had saved some lives with a donation they made.

The club donated $1,000 at their meeting on Thursday afternoon at the Pompano Club in Port Neches to Pups In Peril, a nonprofit organization dedicated to saving dogs of all ages and breeds by rescuing, rehabilitating and placing them in forever homes.

Angela Dodson with Pups in Peril said she spoke to the club about their organization in early December. The Sertoma Club donated $187 that day.

Dodson then got a call last Monday asking her if she was free to attend the meeting on Thursday for the donation.

The donation will cover some of the veterinarian bills. Their intake is currently full, but they will still do emergency intakes for major medical issues requiring surgery or expensive medical treatment.

Pups in Peril started a rescue shelter and it’s a work in progress. They are in need of volunteers and always in need of fosters.

Likewise, there will be a fundraiser called Pups, PAWS and Pins from 12 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 12 at Max Bowl, 3500 Regional Dr. in Port Arthur. This will benefit Pups In Peril and PAWS — another local dog rescue organization.

There will be live entertainment, raffles, silent auction, food and plenty of pups looking for a permanent home. Attendees are asked to leave their own pets at home.

To sponsor a lane, call Connie at 409-722-8300. To donate items for the silent auction call Angela at 409-466-3596.
