Prep Roundup: PNG wins and ties at Classic

PORT NECHES — Port Neches-Groves has still not lost a soccer match this season but the team did get its first tie Saturday in the PNG Kickoff Classic.

The Indians tied Dripping Springs 0-0 to start the day before defeating Bridge City 7-0.

Preston Riggs scored the hat trick against the Cardinals with three goals. Colton Stone was one goal away with two scores.

Logan Riggs and Alex Sweeney each scored for the Indians.

HOUSTON HEIGHTS 2, NEDERLAND 1

PORT NECHES — The Nederland Bulldogs suffered their first loss of the year with a 2-1 defeat to Houston Heights Saturday at the PNG Kickoff Classic.

Travis Wiedenfeld scored the Bulldogs (1-1-1) only goal.

“It is nothing we can’t clean up,” Nederland coach Torrey Gomez said. “I threw some new things at them today, and I was happy with how they responded.”

BOYS HOOPS

PA MEMORIAL 71, LUMBERTON 28 (FRI.)

At Memorial, Tyler Guidry came within a rebound of a double-double, and the Titans (14-5, 2-1 in 22-5A) routed the Raiders in 22-5A play.

Guidry had 16 points, nine rebounds and three blocks. Thailan Wesley added 14 points and a steal and Darion Chatman added seven points, three steals and three assists.

Memorial hosts Ozen on Tuesday.

GIRLS HOOPS

ORANGEFIELD 63, BRIDGE CITY 35 (FRI.)

ORANGEFIELD — Emmi Lummus was active on both sides of the court in Friday’s Bobcat victory, which opened District 22-4A play.

Lummus scored 23 points and made eight steals, Paris Fregia had 13 points and four rebounds; Tatum Garlington had seven points, two steals and four rebounds and Skylar Matson totaled five points, eight rebounds and four steals.

Orangefield hosts Hamshire-Fannett on Tuesday.
