PORT NECHES — A call of a suspicious person in Port Neches led to the arrest of a 27-year-old Port Arthur man early Wednesday morning.
Port Neches police were called to the 2700 block of Elizabeth around 5 a.m. Dec. 7 about a suspicious person wearing dark pants and a dark colored hooded jacket.
Officers found the person matching the description given by dispatch and the suspect ran and was located hiding in a shed in the 2600 block of Miller, according to a press release from the Port Neches Police Department.
The man was arrested for evading detention and for outstanding warrants out of Jefferson County. He also had a prior conviction for evading detention.
The city has had several auto burglaries in the area and the burglars targeted unlocked vehicles.
Residents are asked to secure their vehicles and garages and report any suspicious activity. The alert citizen who reported the suspicious person helped officers to quickly catch the man and possibly prevent additional burglaries, police said.
