PORT NECHES — It did not take a major Division I college very long to show its thoughts about Port Neches-Groves sopohomore quarterback Roschon Johnson.

Coach Kevin Sumlin and the Texas A&M Aggies on Thursday offered Johnson his first college scholarship.

The District 22-5A MVP tweeted the news two minutes before 5 p.m. saying he was “extremely blessed.”

Johnson wowed just about everyone who watched him play for the first time on the varsity level this season. He rushed for 1,620 yards on 251 carries and scored 27 touchdowns on the ground. Johnson’s rushing yards are fifth-most for any rusher in a season at PNG. The touchdowns are tied for second-most.

He added in 2,358 yards on 161 of 263 passing with 29 touchdowns and six interceptions. It was the sixth-most passing yards in a season and fourth-most touchdowns for any PNG quarterback.

Johnson finished with 3,978 total yards of offense with 56 touchdowns.

He has already seen the Aggies up close and personal this season when he went along with Texas A&M commit and PNG receiver Keynel McZeal to Kyle Field on Oct. 8.

The two along with several other PNG players saw a good one as A&M won 45-38 in double overtime over Tennessee. Now one of the big questions surrounding Johnson’s future is how many offers he gets before all is said and done.
