Officials with the city of Nederland have announced the cancellation of its annual Christmas on the Avenue.

The ninth annual event, whichi was set for Saturday, Dec. 3, is cancelled due to the forecast of inclement weather, according to information from the city.

The city’s Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony will be held at 5:45 p.m. Monday, Dec. 5 at Tex Ritter Park and the “If I could be Santa” essay contest winner will be recognized that evening.

LoriLens will still have pictures with Santa Claus at her, 203 N. 11th St., Nederland.

The city offered thanks to the businesses and individuals who planned to sponsor or support the event, and look forward to next year’s celebration.
