Cards return to West, visit Idaho State Tuesday

Lamar is making its second West Coast swing of the men’s basketball season, beginning with a Tuesday night clash with Idaho State in Pocatello, Idaho.

Lamar (4-1) made a similar Northwest-to-California journey almost two weeks ago, upsetting Oregon State by three points before coming up cold in a loss at Fresno State. The Cardinals will follow the Idaho State game with a visit to San Francisco on Friday.

Off to a 4-1 start, the Cardinals could come away victorious against a Bengals team that has fallen to 0-6 following a 33-point defeat at Texas Tech. Idaho State is playing its first home game of the season.

Lamar is returning a visit Idaho State made last season, when the Cardinals won 82-70. It’s the only time the Bengals and Cardinals have previously met.

Junior point guard Torey Noel has become an assist machine for Lamar, recording 10 assists against Prairie View A&M in Friday’s 91-83 win. It’s the most by a Cardinal since the now-departed Kevin Booze dished out 11 against Houston Baptist.

All eyes, however, have been on Nederland’s Colton Weisbrod, the recent All-American for Lamar State College Port Arthur who is nearly averaging a double-double (15.8 points and 9.4 rebounds per game).

Tuesday’s game tips off at 8:05 p.m. Central at Holt Arena and will be broadcast on KLVI-AM 560. The game will not be televised or webcast.
