NEDERLAND — Nederland residents and businesses have a chance to show off their holiday spirit in lights with the Light Up Nederland contest.

This second annual event is a chance to break out those decorations and twinkling lights for a chance at a prize.

There will be two categories, home and business, with six prize levels for each category.

First prize, $500; second prize, $400; third prize, $300; fourth prize, $200; and fifth and sixth are honorable mention with a $75 prize.

Entry is free and open to all residents with a city of Nederland address. Judging will be done from the outside of the homes or businesses.

Judging will be based on curb appeal and judges will look for unique design and creative use of lights and decorations, storyline or theme, display and placement of decorations, animated objects, etc. and overall presentation.

The entry deadline is Nov. 22 and judging will be between Dec. 12 and Dec. 17.
