Roy started his teaching career in Cleveland, MS at the Delta State Demonstration School. In 1955 he moved his family to Port Arthur, TX where he began his 30 year career with P.A.I.S.D. first as a teacher at Lee Elementary. He then became the first Principal at Pease Elementary in Port Acres and then returned to Lee as Principal until his retirement in 1985.

Roy spent his life serving his Lord, his family and his fellow mankind. He was a member of the Lakeview Lion’s Club, the American Heart Association and the Port Arthur Rotary Club.

He and Sue were 60 year members of the United Methodist Temple where he served as a Sunday school teacher, Board Member and on many committees. He was a longtime member of the Wesley Sunday School Class.

Roy volunteered many years at the United Board of Missions where his passion was repairing toys to insure every child would have a toy for Christmas.

He never failed to support his daughters in any activity they were involved in from band to their many Camp Fire Girls activities. He spent many hours at Camp Waluta blazing trails, uncovering the pool or doing anything necessary so that we and many other children had a wonderful summer camp experience.

Roy never met a child in his career that he did not see the good and potential. To this day we still hear from past students and faculty who tell us how he touched their lives.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, November 16, 2016 at The United Methodist Temple in Port Arthur with Reverend Guy Williams officiating.

Roy was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 64 years Sue Tims Lipe; son-in-law Carl Bodin, brothers James E., twin Ray, and Earl Lipe; and sister Nell Lipe Cuevas.

He is survived by his daughters, Martha Lipe Bodin and M.C. Lipe Herndon and husband Dan; his sister Billie Jean Hutchinson and brother Grover Lipe; two grandchildren Ricky Bodin (his buddy) and Christy Bodin Baker along with seven great-grandchildren, Elissia Rae Bodin, Kayson, Kenadie and Kenson DuBois, McKenna, Cale and Maggie Baker; and many nieces and nephews who loved him dearly.

A very special thanks to Penny Lee and her care home, Forever Young. To all of the sweet ladies who took such wonderful care of our Dad we can never say Thank You enough.
