UPDATE: Preliminary autopsy shows burned body that of female

JEFFERSON COUNTY — Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office is working to identify a homicide victim whose body was found burning in the middle of a road just west of Beaumont city limits.
The sheriff’s office received the 911 call from a motorist around 10:30 p.m. Wednesday saying there was a person or a mannequin on fire in the roadway in the 11600 block of Old Sour Lake Road, according to a press release from the sheriff’s office.
Deputies put out the fire and determined it was a human body.
Investigators, members of the identification unit and Jefferson County Regional Crime Lab were involved in the scene. The road was closed to traffic at Keith and Phelan to Old Sour Lake Road at Meeker while conducting the investigation.
Authorities are working to identify the victim
