Walter Church Shaw, 91, of Groves passed away on Monday, October 10, 2016 at his home.
He was born on July 22, 1925 to Elizabeth Land Shaw and Walter Church Shaw in Houston, Texas. Walter has been a resident of the area for most of his life. He graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in 1944. Walter joined the Army in January of 1944, where he was awarded a Purple Heart, Campaign Medal with 3 Bronze Stars and is a World War II disabled veteran. He retired from Texaco in 1982 as a lab technician after 37 years of service. Walter was a member of Holy Trinity Episcopal Church in Port Neches. He enjoyed playing golf, bowling and poker. Walter also enjoyed going to the casino, and camping at Toledo Bend.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his son, James Melvin Shaw.
Walter is survived by his loving wife, Geneva Huff Shaw of Groves, his son, Walter G. Shaw and his wife, Carol of Vidor, his daughter, Lisa Martin and her husband, Bobby of Port Neches, his six grandchildren, Wally Shaw (Stephanie), Alfred Shaw (Arleena), Amanda Maybit (Luis), Michael Shaw, Bobby Martin III (Rachel), Sarah Woodson (Jared), his eight great grandchildren, Tucker, Haley, Presley, Olivia, Oliver, Austen, Gage and Clay and his beloved cat, Frankie.
Visitation for family and friends will be on Wednesday, October 12, 2016 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Clayton Thompson Funeral Home in Groves. Service to honor Walter’s life will be celebrated at 10:00 AM Thursday, October 13, 2016 at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church with Rev. Cliff Rucker, officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park in Groves.
