Hardin County man drowns trying to catch drifting boat

A Hardin County area boater drowned near the Taylor Bayou Bridge on Saturday.
The man, whose name has not been released pending notification of next of kin, had launched his boat at the Taylor Bayou Bridge boat ramp. The boat drifted away from him and he attempted to swim toward the boat but was caught in the current. The emergency call came in at 2:07 p.m., Port Arthur Police Sgt. Jeff Smith said.
Divers with the Port Arthur Fire Department were ale to recover drowning victim, Battalion Chief Jeremy Holland said.
The Hardin County Sheriff’s Office has been notified of the drowning and are set to notify next of kin.
