NEDERLAND — Eann Lee is doing something he’s dreamed about for years, representing Nederland High School as Big Ned.

But for Lee, it’s more than donning a costume.

“I do it for the kids. A lot of little kids don’t follow Friday night football but they see me on the field and are like, ‘wow,’” Lee said. “They take pictures with me. I love it.”

Lee’s aunt was a cheer sponsor when he was in elementary school so he grew up around cheerleaders, Golden Guardians and other school representatives. Big Ned was somebody to look up to.

While Lee is responsible for getting the crowd pumped he has another side — sports statistician. He takes care of stats for basketball and baseball and has done so since he was a freshman.

He’s also involved in fantasy football.

“I love to follow sports and I’m a big Texans and a big Astros fan,” he said.

Senior Counselor Johnna Westbrook said Lee is a joy to be around.

“He is lighthearted and has a God-given gift for making people laugh,” Westbrook said.

After high school Lee plans to attend Lamar University in Beaumont where he will pursue a degree in business. He would like to get a job in human resources.

Eann Lee is the son of Keith and Kayla Lee. He has two older brothers, Ethan and Evan.
