Sam Joseph Savarino

Sam Joseph Savarino, 93, of Port Arthur passed away on Tuesday, August 30, 2016 at Medical Center of Southeast Texas.
Sam was born on December 24, 1922 in Port Arthur, Texas to parents Dominic and Josephine Savarino. Sam played baseball for City of Port Arthur on Pleasure Island. He was a veteran of WWII; serving his country in the Air Force. He was a member of St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church and retired from Texaco after 42 years of employment in the mechanical department. Sam was an avid fishermen, dancer and golfer; after retirement he was involved in the organization of local golf tournaments in the area. Sam was a loving person who will be missed dearly by all.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 64 years, Angelina Rita (Cuccia) Savarino; his brother, Julius Paul Savarino; his sister Virginia Savarino Richey; his nephew, Garland Turano.
Sam is survived by his sons, Mark Savarino of Arnaudville, LA, Marlon Savarino of Orlando, FL; nieces, Jo Carol Savarino Redd and Gail Barrilleaux.
A visitation will be held on Friday, September 2, 2016 from 5 pm until 8 pm at Clayton Thompson Funeral Home, with a rosary to be prayed at 6 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be on Saturday, September 3, 2016 at St. Catherine Catholic Church at 11 AM, celebrant will be Rev. Rodel Faller. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Groves.
