Devon Farris

Devon Farris, 94, of Colmesneil, formerly of Nederland, died Monday, August 22, 2016. He was born on November 11, 1921, in Fullerton, Louisiana, to Frances Catherine Goldman and Levi Andy Farris.

Devon was a United States Navy veteran and served during World War II. He was a policeman/auxiliary policeman with the Nederland Police Department and a volunteer fireman with the Nederland Fire Department. Devon retired after thirty-six years of service as a #1 operator at Chevron Refinery in Port Arthur. He was a member of the OCAW and Odd Fellows.

Survivors include his son, John C. Farris and his wife, Kathy, of Colmesneil; daughter, Dianne Popken and her husband, Gary Don, of Dallas; daughter-in-law, Sharon Farris of Tyler; grandchildren, Jimmy, Tom, Sandy Farris of Tyler; Tim Farris of Nederland; Lori Farris Johnson of Sour Lake; Kristy Popken Peek, Amanda Popken, and Tracy Popken Springer, all of Dallas; nine great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife of sixty-nine years, Irma Mae Farris; son, Jimmie Farris; brothers, Bobby and Archie Farris; and sisters, Annie Mae Barrington, Amy Harvey, and Janie Scarbrough.

A gathering of Mr. Farris’ family and friends will be 9:30 a.m., with his funeral service at 11:00 a.m., Friday, August 26, 2016, at Broussard’s, 505 North 12th Street, Nederland. His interment will follow at Oak Bluff Memorial Park, Port Neches.
