Beaumont man reportedly assaults animal control officer, found with 50 pounds of pot

BEAUMONT — A Beaumont man was arrested after police say he assaulted an animal control officer and later was found to have 50 pounds of marijuana in his home on Thursday.

Beaumont Police were called out at about 4 p.m. to the 4200 block of Steelton to assist the city’s animal control officer.

The officer was following up on an animal cruelty case and went to his vehicle to attempt to write a citation when the suspect allegedly pinned him in the vehicle and began assaulting him, according to a press release from BPD.

Police arrested Craig Wendell Breaux, 37, for assault on a public servant. Bond was set at $50,000.

The animal service officer was treated for minor injuries.

Officers located 25 pounds of marijuana in the house, according to police, and narcotics investigators are handing this part of the issue and will follow up with additional charges.
