On August 1, 2016 at approximately 8:18 pm, Nederland Police and Nederland Fire / Rescue responded to a residence located in the 1000 block of North 13^th Street in Nederland, Texas in reference to an unresponsive child. Upon arrival to the residence it was found that a 2 year old male had gotten out of the residence by unlocking a back door and climbing into an above ground pool located in the back yard.

It is believed, at this time, that the family was in the process of getting ready to swim on this evening. The child’s mother discovered the child in the pool after seeing the rear door open. The mother then pulled the child from the pool and the child’s father began CPR until the arrival of emergency personnel. Acadian EMS then transported the child to the Southeast Texas Medical Center where they attempted to resuscitate the child; at 9:02 pm the child was pronounced deceased. The accident remains under investigation, however at this time there are no signs of neglect or foul play.

The child has been identified as 2 year old, Greyson Paul Meche of Nederland.
