19 Tiger Rock members rack up world medals

Members of Tiger Rock of Mid-County Taekwondo Martial Arts studio in Nederland recently competed in the 2016 World Championships in Baton Rouge, with more than 19 different members coming home with medals.

The event is the culmination of practice and competition and is the third of three meets conducted throughout the year.

“We took 35 students to the World Championships this year and I’m very proud of how well we competed,” Tiger Rock of Mid-County owner Wayne Mathews said.

The competition at the World level is split into two levels with those who win gold at the district or national level competitions and then moving on to the Master’s Series at World.

Tiger Rock, a nationally-recognized Taekwondo organization with more than 300 schools across the U.S., has locations in Nederland, Beaumont, Lumberton, Vidor, Orange, Bridge City, Fannett and Winnie. The first tournament of the 2017 season is set for Nov. 5, 2016, in Lumberton.
