Seattle Seahawks safety Earl Thomas of West Orange earned a proverbial silver medal, days before the real Olympic Games begin.
Analysts at NFL.com ranked Thomas as the second-best safety in the league behind the Arizona Cardinals’ Tyrann Mathieu of LSU, earning him a silver medal on the “safety podium.”
“Thomas has a nose for the football and is a playmaker on all levels,” analyst Willie McGinest wrote. “He’s been an huge part of the Seattle defense’s success.”
Mathieu tweeted: “Even though I think @Earl_Thomas is a better pure safety than me, I’ll take the nod.”
