Claude Ray Weeks, Jr., 84, of Port Acres, passed away peacefully at his home, Tuesday, July 19, 2016. Claude was born February 16, 1932 in Beaumont, TX to the late Luther and Violet Dyson Berwick. He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Dorothy Weeks of Port Acres; sons, Douglas Weeks and wife Kathy of Nederland, Jamie Weeks and wife Sarah of Port Arthur, David Weeks and wife Cheryl of Nederland; brother, James L. Berwick “Bubba” of High Island; sisters, Linda Vaughn and husband Reverend Gordon Vaughn of Center, Velma Theriot and husband Robert of Bridge City, Thelma Wheelis of Bridge City; 8 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and many close friends.  He is preceded in death by his granddaughter, Michelle “Missy” Weeks and brother-in-law, Billy Lee.

Claude graduated from High Island High school in 1951, where he enjoyed playing basketball and football.  He received a football scholarship from Stephen F. Austin in Nacogdoches, TX, but was drafted into the United States Army.  He served his country in the Korean War and was awarded the Purple Heart medal of honor. Claude retired from Gulf Oil as an instrument technician. He and Dorothy were active members of the United Pentecostal Church in Bridge City, TX. He was a godly man and loved the Lord. He witnessed to any and every one he met when given the opportunity. Claude loved his family dearly, he was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He was known as a jokester and enjoyed joking and “cutting up” with everyone. Claude and Dorothy had a passion for collecting antiques and loved going to flea markets and traveling.

You were a great man “Sonny Boy” and will be missed by all!!!

There will be a gathering of family and friends Thursday, July 21, 2016 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Melancon’s Funeral Home in Nederland, TX.  The funeral service will be held on Friday, July 22, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home with burial to follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Groves, TX.
