TYLER — The Bridge City Junior League All-Stars scored plenty of runs the past two games. The last one got them into the regional tournament.

Cade Brown smacked a two-out, bases-loaded single to score the go-ahead run in the 10th inning of a 13-12 victory over West University of Houston to win the Texas East state championship Wednesday. West University forced the winner-take-all game by defeating Bridge City 12-10 Tuesday.

Junior League is a division for 12- to 14-year-olds in Little League Baseball, one level higher than the 12-under Majors who can qualify for the prestigious Little League World Series in Williamsport, Pa. Bridge City’s Juniors now advance to the Southwest Regional in Rio Rancho, N.M., which begins Aug. 5.

The game was tied at 12-12 through the regulation seven innings.

Ryan Ellis hit 7 of 10 through the past two games to lead Bridge City. Kent Michael took the mound in the sixth inning and came up with the win.

It is the first state title for the Bridge City Juniors.

Also in the Texas East 10-year-old state finals, Bridge City lost to Post Oak 6-3.
