Port Neches eliminated Groves with a 14-1 victory Wednesday.

Nederland held Bridge City at bay through the first two innings before Bridge City struck for seven runs in the third.

Ashton Landry, J.T. Fielder, Ethan Oceguera, Jude Danks, Coop Longron, Cade Smith and Kaden Honeycutt all scored in the third for Bridge City.

Smith and Honeycutt scored again in the fourth as Bridge City opened a 9-0 lead and Fielder ended the game when he scored on a wild pitch in the fourth.

“All 13 kids can swing it,” Bridge City coach Todd Longron said. “There’s really no holes in the lineup. We don’t have a bottom of the lineup because it really just starts over about halfway through it.”

Bridge City’s pitching struck out five Nederland batters. Ashton Landry worked the first two innings and had two strikeouts. He allowed two base runners, one in each inning.

Fielder pitched the last two innings and allowed three runners and had three strikeouts.

“They gave us a heck of a ball game for two innings,” Longron said. “The day rest and being able to throw pitchers Friday is nice. We will have everyone Friday for two games if needed.”

Longron said the difference in the game was when Nederland starter Baylen Bryant was taken out of the game.

“That lefty threw a great game,” Longron added.
