NPS issued the Silver Alert for Collins shortly after 5 p.m. Tuesday. Collins, 84, suffers from dementia due to a brain injury and is the father of Nederland Fire Chief Gary Collins.

Chief Collins last spoke with his father around 4 p.m. Monday and had went to check on him around 11:30 a.m. Tuesday and noticed his father and his father’s truck were missing from his home in the 200 block of South Fourth Street.

This was cause for a red flag because his family had taken his keys.
