Charges dropped against Port Neches man

BEAUMONT — Charges have been dropped against a Port Neches man who reportedly fell asleep at the wheel and crashed into another man killing him last year.

Reid Spencer Guidry, 28, was indicted this by Jefferson County grand jury for criminally negligent homicide in the death of Joseph Menis, 60, of Orange.

The News learned that on Friday the charges against Guidry had been dropped.

Jefferson County Assistant District Attorney Pat Knauth said the DA’s office had received additional information and felt there was not probable cause to pursue charges on a criminal offense.

According to archive information, the driver of a Ford pickup truck reportedly fell asleep at the wheel and rear-ended a 2010 Dodge truck on Texas 73 near Taylor Bayou in August 2015. Both vehicles left the roadway and flipped. Menis had to be extracted from his truck and was brought to Christus Hospital-St. Elizabeth in Beaumont where he died from his injuries. He was not wearing a seat belt.

Guidry, who was wearing a seat belt, was not injured.
