Whitney Antoine Fontenette

Whitney Antoine Fontenette, 84, of Port Arthur, Texas passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 21, 2016 at his home with his family by his side. Whitney was born August 19, 1931 in Loreauville, Louisiana to the late Richard Fontenette and Mary Polk Fontenette. He was a long time resident of Port Arthur, Texas.

 

Whitney retired from the City of Port Arthur as a maintenance crew supervisor after 40 years of service.  In addition, Whitney owned and managed Fontenette’s grocery store on 9th Street for 17 years.

Whitney is preceded in death by his wife, Lucille Davis Fontenette; son, Perry Lee Fontenette; daughter, Darnella Fontenette Anderson.

 

He leaves to cherish his memory, three sons, Eddie Fontenette, Timothy Fontenette (Cathy), and Terry Fontenette of Port Arthur, Texas; daughter, Tammy Fontenette Cartwright (Mitch) of Austin, Texas; three brothers, Robert Fontenette, Floyd Fontenette and Paul Herman Fontenette, of Port Arthur, Texas; four sisters, Margaret Fontenette, Prinella Fontenette, Elaine Green, and Castille Orphe, of St. Martinville, Louisiana; fourteen grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren; a devoted nephew, Alvin Jones, along with numerous nieces, nephews, and many other family members and friends.

 

Funeral services will be Saturday, May 28, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with visitation from 8:00 a.m. until service time.  Burial will follow in Live Oak Memorial Park, under the direction of Gabriel Funeral Home.
