Felipe Subia, Sr., 88, of Port Arthur passed away Monday, May 16, 2016, at home with his family by his side. Felipe was born August 2, 1927 in Ysleta, Texas to the late Vicente and Marina Manriquez Gamboa. He was a World War II Veteran from 1945-1948 and retired after 39 years of service from the Naval Reserves as a Chief Petty Officer. Felipe was past Commander of American Legion Post #7 from 1980-1981 and 1986-1987. Felipe retired from Texaco Island after 30 years and Walmart after 10 years. He was known to his family as a disciplinarian, but was a loving, caring and compassionate father. Each year he took time out of his busy work life to take his children on vacation. Felipe taught his children lessons in life; achieve your goals and never give up. Felipe was a hard worker, very creative and a great handyman; if his children wanted something he would build it from scratch. He was a great provider to his family and loved his children unconditionally. He had a great sense of humor and loved to joke with everyone. Felipe taught his son, Felipe Jr., electrical and mechanical work. He also encouraged his son to continue his career with the military. He taught all of his children to drive a standard vehicle and taught his girls how to change a tire. Felipe enjoyed watching the Dallas Cowboys with his family and loved to dance with his children. He was devoted to his family and never turned his back on anyone.

Felipe was preceded in death by his parents, Vicente and Maria; his loving wife of 67 years, Ernestina Galvan Subia; 2 brothers and 1 sister. He is survived by his children; Helen Davis and husband Jimmy; Felipe Subia, Jr., Mary Lou Arciva, Ernestine Navarro and husband Alberto; Josie McKinny, Pauline Subia and life partner Barbara McAllister; Veronica Subia Elchehabi and husband Ziad. Felipe also leaves behind 2 brothers; 3 sisters; 10 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; numerous nieces; nephews; friends and other relatives to cherish his memories.
