CORPUS CHRISTI — Alex Dunbar and Ryan Creech opened the Southland Conference Outdoor Championships with all-league honors for the Lamar track and field teams after second and third place finishes, respectively, at Dugan Stadium Friday night.

Both raced in the men’s 10,000-meters, and Dunbar finished second behind Stephen F. Austin’s Charles Mathenge on a 30:48.48 mark, and Creech followed with his 30:59.63 time. Heading into the meet, Dunbar sat in second on the SLC lists, but Creech was able to jump from ninth to third. On the women’s side of the 10K, reigning Southland Conference champion Evelyn Chavez placed fourth and scored five points for the Cards. She marked in at 36:52.12.

Lamar will be back at on Saturday, the second day of the three day meet.
