Nederland sets up playoff game for 22-5A softball title

LUMBERTON — The District 22-5A softball championship race has now come down to one game.

Nederland forced a one-game playoff by beating Lumberton 5-0 on Monday behind Madyson Guidry’s 10 strikeouts. The win ties Nederland (23-9, 12-2 in 22-5A) with Port Neches-Groves (21-7, 12-2) for first place, and the two will break the tie at 6 tonight at Port Arthur Memorial.

Guidry held Lumberton to three hits and walked only two, while the Lady Raiders struggled with nine errors.

Hannah Smith and Amanda Longlet each had two hits to lead Nederland, which finished with eight hits. Lexi Eversole had a double and batted in three runs. Nederland scored two runs each in the second and fifth innings and one in the sixth.
