GROVES — A Groves Police deputy was injured after his patrol unit was rear-ended Thursday night.
The deputy, whose name has not been released, was just leaving a call in a neighborhood around 8 p.m. and was traveling eastbound in the 2900 block of West Parkway near 25th Street when he was struck from behind by another vehicle, Groves Police City Marshal Norman Reynolds Jr. said.
“The vehicle that struck the deputy’s vehicle left the roadway, went through the median into the eastbound lanes of traffic, crossed another media and the westbound lanes and came to rest on the opposite side of the road,” Reynolds said.
The officer was sent to The Medical Center of Southeast Texas with a possible broken elbow. The suspect was also sent to The Medical Center for treatment. His condition was not known as of Friday afternoon.
Reynolds said it appears the suspect was travelling at a high rate of speed due to the amount of damage done to the officers’ vehicle.
The suspect, who has not been named, could face charges from failure to control speed, which is a traffic citation on up. Reynolds does not know if the suspect was intoxicated but tests were run at the hospital.
