LSCPA sweeps Laredo

The Lamar State College Port Arthur Seahawks won big over Laredo College Saturday and then used some dramatics in the second game of a doubleheader for the sweep.

The Seahawks pounded Laredo 11-1 in the first game behind the hitting of Rebecca Hernandez and the pitching of Angelica Rogers.

Hernandez went 2 for 2 at the plate with a homer, a double, three RBI and two runs.

Rogers pitched all five innings and gave up a run on two hits with three strikeouts and two walks.

Kayla Sheridan went 3 for 3 with three runs, Alexis Perez was 1 for 3 with two runs and a RBI, Sierra Miller scored twice and Nicole Thorn had a triple.

The Seahawks scored five runs in the first and four runs in the second to open a 9-0 lead.

LSCPA out hit Laredo 9-2 in Game 1.

The second game was much more exciting as the two teams finished tied 2-2 after seven innings and needed two extra frames to finish the deal.

Hernandez had the game-winning hit to short that allowed Thorn to cross home for the win.

Hernandez threw all nine innings and gave up two runs on four hits with nine strikeouts and two walks.

Bailey Suza was 3 for 4 aat the plate and Thorn finished 2 for 3 with two runs. Anessa Sanchez was 1 for 4 with a homer and Sheridan added a triple.

LSCPA plays a doubleheader Friday at Alvin College starting at 1 p.m.
