Florence Elisabeth Canton Polite

Florence Elisabeth Canton Polite passed away peacefully in Austin, Texas, on March 30, 2016, at the age of 93, surrounded by her family. Florence was born in Port Arthur, Texas on August 9, 1922, to Hulda and Toney Canton. She graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in 1940 and married Frank Polite in the fall of that year. In 1956, Florence began her career in banking as a temporary typist, and in 1977, she retired from her position as Vice President& Investment Officer of the First Bank & Trust, originally the First State Bank of Groves. Florence worked at every job in the bank and held every officer title except president. In 1978, Florence and Frank moved to Jasper, Texas, to enjoy their retirement years. Florence moved to Austin, Texas in 2003, to be closer to her family and enjoy her great granddaughters. Florence and Frank were active members of Trinity Lutheran in Port Arthur and St. Paul Lutheran Church in Jasper, Texas.

In addition to her daughter, Karen Williams and her husband Ray Ellis, granddaughter, Kelly Weiss and her husband Richard Weiss, and great granddaughters, Zara Lynn and Aria Rose Weiss, Florence is survived by her sister Dorothy Haws of Conroe, her sister Mary Helen Linscomb and her husband, Larry of Buna, TX, and many beloved nieces and nephews who call her “Auntie.” She was predeceased by her husband Frank Polite, her daughter Sue Lynn Polite, and her brother, A.J. Canton of Port Arthur.

In lieu of flowers, Memorial Contributions may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church Youth Group or personal choice. Services will be held at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Port Arthur, Texas on Saturday, April 9, 2016 at 2:30pm.
