Groves Police responded to the following calls from March 23 through March 29

Wednesday, March 23

  • Medication was stolen from a UPS delivery package in the 3200 block of Boyd.
  • An Apple IPad and laptop computer were stolen from a trailer parked in the 3200 block of Elm.
  • Theft by deception was reported when the victim received a phone call from someone claiming to be from the Jefferson County Sheriff’s office stating that a warrant was issued for his arrest for failing to attend jury duty. The caller instructed the victim to purchase debit cards totaling $3,000.The debit card information was then given to the caller.
  • Theft by deception in the amount of $13,5000 was reported when the victim received a phone call from someone claiming to be from the IRS stating that the victim owed the large amount of money after an audit. The victim was instructed to purchase several ITunes gift cards immediately or she would be arrested.

Thursday, March 24

  • A 28 year old male was arrested on outstanding warrants after officers were called about a suspicious person in the 5000 block of Twin City Highway.
  • A 24-year-old male was arrested on outstanding warrants after a traffic stop in the 6400 block of Hogaboom.
  • Several items were reported stolen in the 5500 block of Hogaboom.
  • A 53-year-old male was arrested on four traffic violations in the 4200 block of 32nd Street. A 43-year-old male passenger was arrested for outstanding warrants.
  • A 38-year-old male was arrested for assault in the 4800 block of Grant.

Friday, March 25

  • An assault was reported in the 6800 block of 25th Street.
  • A 36-year-old female was arrested on outstanding warrants after a traffic stop in the 6700 block of 25th Street.
  • An assault was reported in the 3900 block of Cleveland.
  • A PlayStation 4 and a Digiland tablet were stolen from the 2800 block of oak.
  • A PlayStation 4 was stolen from the 6400 block of Washington.
  • A 20-year-old male and a 21-year-old male were arrested for possession of marijuana after a traffic violation in the 3900 block of Taft.

Saturday, March 26

  • A 65 quart Yeti cooler and a Makita grinder were stolen from a truck parked in the 2100 block of Curt.
  • Food items were stolen from a house in the 2600 block of Ruby.

Sunday, March 27

  • A 37-year-old male was arrested on outstanding warrants after officers were called to the 5100 block of East Parkway in reference to a suspicious subject.
  • Violation of a protective order was reported in the 6100 block of Coolidge.
  • An assault was reported in the 3100 block of Berry.

Monday, March 28

  • A 2-foot by 4-foot American flag was stolen off the front of a house in the 2700 block of Boyd. A Stihl lawn blower was also reported stolen.
  • An assault was reported in the 6100 block of Cove.
  • Harassment/breach of computer security was reported after the victim discovered her computer passwords were used without her permission.

Tuesday, March 29

  • Marijuana and drug paraphernalia were discovered in a vehicle during a traffic stop in the 5000 block of Monroe.
  • A Stoeger 12 gauge shotgun was stolen from a vehicle in the 6800 block of 25th Street.
  • A Hi Standard .22 semi-automatic pistol was stolen from a house in the 6500 block of Plaza.
  • A report of a terroristic threat was made.
  • A forged prescription was passed in the 4700 block of Twin City Highway.
  • Unauthorized charges were made on a debit card account.
  • A 53-year-old male was arrested for terroristic threat of family/household in the 2600 block of Oleander.
  • An assault was reported in the 4800 block of Simpson.

TIP OF THE WEEK

Securing Your Motorcycle — After making the investment in this mode of transportation that can cost almost as much as or sometimes even more than a car it makes no sense to skimp. The motorcycle should be safeguarded with a mated 3/8” set steel alloy chain and a padlock of equivalent strength. Sheathed wire has not proven to be a very effective way to prevent burglary.
