Peggy June Smith

Peggy June Smith, 86, of Lumberton passed away on Monday, March 14, 2014 at Silsbee Convalescent Home.

Peggy was born on October 6, 1929 in Port Arthur and had lived in Port Arthur and Lumberton area. She graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School and Port Arthur Business College. She was a member of Candlestick Baptist Church in Lumberton and was employed with Texaco as a secretary for many years. She enjoyed going to nursing homes in the area to sing with church groups. Peggy was a loving person who will be missed dearly.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Cynthia Cornelia (Ellis) Johnson, her husband, Thomas M. Smith and two brothers.

Peggy is survived by her niece, Cynthia Neal and husband, David of Houston; great niece, Jennifer Long and husband, Kenneth of Friendswood; great-great nieces, Reagan and Berkeley Long.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 19, 2016 at 2 pm at Clayton Thompson Funeral Home, with a gathering of family and friends from 1 pm until service time. Rev. Willie (Bubba) Thompson will conduct the service. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Groves.
