PREP ROUNDUP: Johnson’s hat trick paces PN-G soccer past Central

PORT NECHES — The Port Neches-Groves Lady Indians easily pushed through the Central Lady Jaguars on Friday for a 7-0 soccer win.

Mikayla Johnson scored a hat trick with three goals, and Hailey Loupe and Bailey Tran each scored twice. Keeper Libbie LeJeune was credited with the shutout.

PN-G travels to face Vidor Tuesday to close out the regular season.

SOFTBALL

PN-G 11, LUMBERTON 0 (5 INN.)

PORT NECHES — Port Neches-Groves did not let a wet field stop the Lady Indians from grabbing a District 22-5A win Friday.

PN-G defeated Lumberton 11-0 in five innings and is now 2-1 in the district standings and 11-6 overall.

Britni Hunt got the win on the mound after giving up two hits with six strikeouts.

Kaitlyn Boudreaux finished 3 for 3 with two RBI, two runs, a homer and a double. Bailey Crorey was 2 for 3 with a run and stolen base and Alexis LaBure had a RBI triple. Avery Hooks drove in two runs and scored once.

PN-G faces rival Nederland at 11:30 a.m. Monday. Fans can take part of a LifeShare blood drive at the game.

BOYS SOCCER

NEDERLAND 2, GCM 2

NEDERLAND — The Nederland Bulldogs suffered through a rough time trying to stop Goose Creek Memorial’s corner kicks Friday.

The Patriots scored off a corner, and another set up a penalty kick in a 2-2 tie. Nederland’s Jaime Moreno scored his second goal of the match in the 64th minute off an assist from Travis Wiedenfeld to tie the match.

Moreno scored in the 12th minute when Daniel Luketich set up the goal.

Nederland must win or tie Lumberton on the road Tuesday to get into the postseason on the team’s own power. Port Neches-Groves defeated Central 3-0 behind the 57th career shutout from senior keeper Bryce Meche.
