Groves man dies in Hardin County head-on wreck

A Groves man is dead following a head-on collision that occurred in Hardin County Friday night.

Troopers with the Texas Department of Public Safety were notified of the wreck at about 10:35 p.m. March 4 on Texas 327 in Hardin County about three miles west of Silsbee near Village Creek.

A 2014 Jeep was traveling westbound on Texas 327 and a 2014 Dodge was traveling eastbound when the driver of the Jeep crossed the center line and travelled into the eastbound traffic lane. The Jeep struck the Dodge head-on in the eastbound traffic lane, according to a press release from the DPS.

The driver of the Jeep, Owens Havard, 36, of Groves, was pronounced dead at the crash scene. The driver of the Dodge, Arthur Turner, 22, of Silsbee, was flown by medical helicopter to Christus Hospital-St. Elizabeth in Beaumont with serious injuries. Turner underwent emergency surgery and DPS had not received any updates on his medical condition Saturday morning.

One of the front passengers in the Dodge, Jeremic Wilson, 29, was transported to St. Elizabeth hospital in stable condition. His injuries do not appear to be life threatening.

The second passenger in the Dodge was an 8-year-old girl. She was transported by private vehicle to St. Elizabeth hospital for observation.

Troopers are still working to determine the factors that may have caused Havard to travel into oncoming traffic.

The investigation is on-going and all information is preliminary.
