Lamar is in.

The Cardinals (11-18, 7-11 Southland) had to play a little bit of a waiting game to clinch a berth in next week’s Southland Conference women’s basketball tournament in Katy, but conference officials confirmed Friday they would get to extend their season as a seventh or eighth seed.

Seeding will be finalized after Saturday’s games. Lamar finished its regular season Wednesday night missing out on a chance to clinch a berth then after a 78-75 loss at Sam Houston State.

Although the tournament includes eight teams, the bracket calls for the third and fourth seeds to receive a bye and the first and second seeds to receive a double bye. Lamar would have to win four games in four days, beginning March 10, to win an automatic bid to the NCAA tournament. The eighth seed will take on the fifth seed at 11 a.m. that Thursday, with seeds 6 and 7 squaring off at 1:30 p.m.

Tickets are available at the Montagne Center ticket office or by calling 880-1715 through Wednesday, and will be sold at the Merrell Center in Katy, site of the tournament, beginning Thursday. An all-tournament book is $75, individual session tickets $15 each and championship game tickets $10 each.

ESPN3.com will webcast the first three rounds of the Southland tournament. CBS Sports Network will televise the March 13 final.
