Memorial finishes 1-3 in Spring Branch tournament

HOUSTON — Port Arthur Memorial came away with one victory this past weekend in the Spring Branch ISD baseball tournament.
The win came in 12-2 fashion over Houston Northbrook in their second game. Kevin Cruz Lugo and Bra’Shaud Johnson each had three hits, with Johnson driving in three runs. J.P. Fernandez, Ramiro Sanchez, Devuan Anderson, Carlos Granados, Joe Chretien and Mario Dublin each had a hit, with Sanchez driving in two runs and Lugo, Fernandez and Anderson knocking in one apiece.
Roberto Collazo did not allow a run on five hits, struck out two and walked two in five innings in earning the win. Daniel Mitchell allowed Northbrook’s two runs on two hits, walked one and fanned one in one inning.
Memorial dropped the first game to Spring Woods 6-3. Roberto Collazo, Sanchez and Anderson each lined a hit and batted in a run. David Torres, Lugo and Dublin each had a hit. Chretien and Granados each gave up two hits in 2 2/3 innings, with Chretien striking out two.
Memorial also had a 5-3 loss to Fort Bend Elkins. Anderson allowed all five runs on four hits while striking out seven in four innings. Granados held Elkins to one hit in one inning.
Lugo was 1 for 2 with a double and two RBI. Chretien and Granados each had a hit.
In a 9-7 loss to Houston Waltrip, Sanchez drove in three runs and went 3 for 4, while Granados batted 3 for 3 with an RBI. Lugo recorded a hit with two RBI and Chretien went 2 for 5. Chris Garza, Torres and Dublin each had a hit as well.
The Titans will play in the Lumberton tournament beginning Thursday.
