LONGVIEW — Lamar State College-Port Arthur’s softball team dropped two, including a heartbreaker, at the NJCAA Region XIV Crossover Tournament on Saturday. The Seahawks fell 5-2 to Paris Junior College and 8-6 to Angelina College.
After building a 2-0 lead against Paris, the Hawks gave up a run in the fourth, three in the fifth and another in the sixth as the Dragons amassed 14 hits in the win.
Bailey Suza finished 2 for 3, while Anessa Sanchez was 1 for 3 with a double and Alexis Perez chipped in a 2-for-4 performance with a double. Rebecca Hernandez went the distance on the mound for the Seahawks, allowing five earned runs.
In the second game of the day, the Seahawks led 3-0 through two innings before Angelina scored two in the third. LSCPA answered with three more runs in the bottom of the third for a 6-2 lead, which is where it stood until the top of the sixth. Angelina added two runs to close to within 6-4.
In the seventh, a walk, a fielding error and a single loaded the bases for Angelina’s Boucher, who slapped a grand slam home run to center field for the 8-6 lead.
The Seahawks face their final day of tournament play in Longview today with games against Kilgore College at 11 a.m. and Northeast Texas Community College at 3 p.m.
