Robert “Bob” P. Daniel, 86, passed away on February 19, 2016, at Houston Methodist Hospital. He was born on September 30, 1929, in Port Arthur, Texas, to W. W. “Bill” Daniel and Clemmie Smith Daniel.
Bob was born and raised in Port Acres, Texas, and was a 1948 graduate of Stephen F. Austin High School. After high school, he attended and proudly served in the Corp of Cadets at Texas A&M University. He proceeded to join the U.S. National Guard from which he was honorably discharged in 1953.
Bob shared 40 glorious years with Gertrude Parker as his wife before her passing in 1989. He later married Janice Arnold, and they were blessed with 26 years together.
Following 39 years of service, in 1989, Bob retired from the Gulf/Chevron Refinery in Port Arthur. However, this would not be his final job. Bob loved to drive and found himself transporting countless vehicles for Kinsel Motors and other area dealerships. Bob was also a man who reveled in travel, having worked as a courier for a Houston- based company, delivering items ranging from original documents to drill bits, affording him the opportunity to experience destinations all around the world. Later in life, his love for travel endured as he was always planning numerous vacations. Bob was also a man of service, having been a member of the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP), where he volunteered for the Veteran’s Administration; and was also a former member of the Board of Directors of the Gulf Credit Union. Bob was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church of Nederland.
Bob’s humor and wit will always be most remembered. One never knew what tale would be told when he’d ask, “Guess where I have been!” or “Let me tell you a story!”  When at home, you would find Bob walking in the neighborhood, which he did daily until he became ill in July 2015; playing “Sol,” having a cup of coffee, or sharing a memory with his friends and family. Bob worked hard, laughed often, enjoyed each day, and rarely was without a smile on his face.
Other than his parents, Bob was preceded in death by his brother, Sherrill, his wife, Gertrude Daniel, his grandson, Thomas Foley, Jr., and a great- granddaughter, Abigail Fort.
Bob is survived by his wife of 26 years, Janice Daniel of Nederland; his daughters, Carolyn Daniel, of Nederland; Terri Weller and husband Bruce of Houston; Reba Dulaney and husband Michael of Jasper; step-daughters Susan Jacobs and husband Jerry of Groves; Sarah Arnold Werner of Midland; Colleen Halliburton and husband Cleve of Beaumont; 13 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.
A visitation will be held at Melancon’s Funeral Home, 1605 Avenue H, Nederland, Texas, Tuesday, February 23, 2016, at 6:00 p.m. A memorial service will be held at Melancon’s Funeral Home at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, February 24, 2016. Burial will follow at Oak Bluff Cemetery in Port Neches, Texas.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to Wesley United Methodist Church, 3515 Helena Avenue, Nederland, Texas 77627. Condolences may be left on Melancon’s Funeral Home online guest book at www.melancons.org.
