PREPS ROUNDUP: Bulldogs seal third place

LUMBERTON — Nederland overcame an early deficit on the road and went on to beat Lumberton 60-51 in a boys basketball regular season finale Tuesday.
Lumberton (14-18, 2-12), which finished in a three-way tie for sixth place with Goose Creek Memorial and Vidor, took a 20-17 lead through one period, but the Bulldogs managed to pull out a win after leading 33-32 at halftime.
Jase Miguez and Darrell Jones each had 17 points and Kevin Howard netted 12 for Nederland (24-11, 9-5), which awaits its 5A bi-district matchup next week. The Bulldogs earned third place with the win and Baytown Lee’s loss to Central.
Also on Tuesday, North Shore defeated Port Arthur Memorial 72-54 in Houston.

SABINE PASS 81, HULL-DAISETTA 38
SABINE PASS — Jamyus Jones and Daniel Sam finished the regular season in style, and along with it came third place in District 24-2A for Sabine Pass.
Jones finished with 27 points, Sam had 22, and the Sharks (15-7, 8-4) scored a 43-point rout. Brandon Miller added 13 in the victory.

BOYS SOCCER
PN-G 3, CENTRAL 1

PORT NECHES — The Port Neches-Groves Indians picked up another District 22-5A victory Tuesday night.
The Indians got two goals from Koby Jones and another from Preston Riggs to beat Central 3-1. Ryan Billeaud had the assist to Riggs.
PN-G (11-1-3, 5-0-1) hits the road to face Vidor on Friday.

GOOSE CREEK MEMORIAL 3, NEDERLAND 1
BAYTOWN — Daniel Luketich scored the Nederland Bulldogs’ lone goal as the Goose Creek Memorial Patriots stole a victory in District 22-5A.
Nederland coach Torrey Gomez reported a couple of the goals were “soft goals” that put the Bulldogs in an early hole.
“We played our best game attacking and in possession but realize there are no moral victories,” Gomez added.
Nederland is home Friday against Lumberton.

GOOSE CREEK MEMORIAL 0

NEDERLAND — The Nederland Lady Bulldogs remained undefeated in District 22-5A play Tuesday with a 4-0 win over Goose Creek Memorial.
Madison Ledet had a hat trick and Abby Gray also scored to improve the Lady Bulldogs to 10-2-1 overall and 5-0-1 in the district standings.
Meg Sheppard, Madison Diaz and Haley Plumley all had assists for Nederland.
The Lady Bulldogs play at Lumberton on Friday.

PN-G 9, CENTRAL 0
BEAUMONT — The Port Neches-Groves Lady Indians were too much for the Central Lady Jaguars Tuesday evening. Junior Hailey Loupe finished with two goals and three assists as the Lady Indians won 9-0.
PN-G (9-5-1, 4-2) also got two goals from Mikayla Johnson, Mia Delgadillo and Camryn Prosen. Grace Seymour also scored for the Lady Indians. Bailey Tran had two assists and Kayla Reed had one.
The team plays Vidor on Friday at The Reservation.

SOFTBALL
PN-G 10, ORANGEFIELD 6

ORANGEFIELD — Britni Hunt got the Port Neches-Groves Lady Indians’ softball team off to a fast start.
Hunt work 4 2/3 innings Tuesday against Orangefield and struck out 11 batters in a 10-6 win. She was also 2 for 4 at the plate.
Kaitlyn Boudreaux led the offensive attack for PN-G (1-0) by going 3 for 5 at the plate with a grand slam, a double and a triple. She had five RBI.
Avery Hooks was 2 for 4 with two doubles and Alexis LaBure had an RBI double. Callie Jourdan was 3 for 3 at the plate and struck out five batters while pitching. Rachel Hammersmith added a double and was 2 for 3 batting.
PN-G outhit Orangefield 15-4 but had five errors.
Kaylee Ancelot pitched for Orangefield and struck out two batters. She also hit a double.
The Lady Indians play at the Brenham tournament this weekend.

SABINE PASS 21, PA MEMORIAL 1
At Memorial, freshman Jaizee Landry struck out six in three innings, and the Lady Sharks run-ruled the Lady Titans.
Freshmen Raquel Johnson, sophomore Lauren Price and junior Baylee Battiste each batted in three runs to lead Sabine Pass. Johnson had an inside-the-park home run that cleared the loaded bases in the top of the third.
