PREP ROUNDUP: Titans track post 41.79 in 4×100 to start year

FRIENDSWOOD — The Port Arthur Memorial boys’ track team wasted no time lighting up the track.

Memorial’s 4×100 meter relay team of Terrence Pitre, Kameron Martin, Quantae Connor and Kary Vincent Jr. blazed their way to a national-leading 41.79-second time to finish first in the event at the Clear Brook Wolverine Relays.

Jkoven Celestine finished second in the long jump with a 23-foot, 11-inch height and then won the triple jump with a leap of 45-5.

The Titans 4×800 relay team of Jaylan Thomas, Jaquan Francois, Dylan Smith and Israel Stevens placed fifth.

Javante Butler was fourth in the 110-meter hurdles while teammate Bryan Moore placed was sixth.

Moore was fifth in the 300-meter hurdles.

The team of Martin, De’Andre Angelle, Francois and Vincent finished first in the 4×400-meter relay.

Memorial finished with 71 points.

BOYS HOOPS

SABINE PASS 82, BOB HOPE 38

In Port Arthur, a balanced scoring attack helped the Sharks put on a rout of their cross-town rivals in District 22-4A.

Jamyus Jones followed up a 23-point night in a loss at Evadale on Tuesday with 23 points in Friday’s win. Daniel Sam had 16 points, Jamal Dorsey scored 13 and Brandon Miller totaled 12.

Sabine Pass (14-7, 7-4) finishes its regular season at home Tuesday against Hull-Daisetta. Bob Hope’s season concluded with the loss; the Eagles finished 8-13 (counting some wins that had to be forfeited) and 1-10.

CENTRAL 82, PN-G 49

BEAUMONT — The Port Neches-Groves Indians fell behind early to Class 5A No. 6 Central and never recovered.

The Indians trailed 31-7 after the first quarter and were defeated 82-49.

PN-G (15-12, 6-7) received 20 points and 14 rebounds from Ryan Abel while Adam Morse scored 11 points.

Sharrod Vallier led Central (25-6, 12-1) with 16 points and Nijal Pearson finished with 14.

The Jaguars led 49-17 at the break.

PN-G finishes up the regular season at home Tuesday against Vidor.

BOYS SOCCER

PN-G 12, OZEN 0

BEAUMONT — It was a scoring frenzy for the Port Neches-Groves Indians Friday against the Ozen Panthers.

Sophomore Preston Riggs scored a hat trick in the Indians’ 12-0 victory over the Panthers. PN-G is now 10-1-3 overall and 4-0-1 in District 22-5A play.

Colton Stone scored twice and had two assists while Koby Jones had a goal and three assists. Ryan Billeaud, Noah Holthom and Christian Davalos each had two assists.

Jose Acosta, Preston Hughes, Harlan Cook, Noah Gutierrez and Mario Oceguera each scored a goal.

Caleb Davis and Gunnar Nicholson both had assists.

Keeper Bryce Meche is now six shutouts away from tying the state record of 61.

Central is at PN-G Tuesday.

NEDERLAND 0, BAYTOWN LEE 0

NEDERLAND — The Nederland Bulldogs showed off a great defense Friday but could not find the net against the Baytown Lee Ganders.

Anthony Drago had the clean sheet as the Bulldogs (5-3-5, 2-1-2) played Lee to a 0-0 tie.

“We haven’t created enough going forward,” coach Torrey Gomez said. “I see it in spurts but we need to do it for 80 minutes.”

Nederland travels to Baytown Tuesday to face Goose Creek Memorial.

LA PORTE 0 (3), PA MEMORIAL 0 (2)

The Port Arthur Memorial Titans played what coach Clint Hoverson called their best match of the District 21-6A schedule.

Unfortunately, the Titans fell 3-2 in penalty kicks to La Porte. The match was tied 0-0 after regulation.

Memorial (0-3-1 in 21-6A) outshot La Porte 10-3 and got 10 saves from keeper Arturo Villarreal who Hoverson named Man of the Match.

Kevin Vazquez and Roberto Guzman each scored a penalty kick for the Titans.

The Titans face West Brook next Friday at the Thomas Center in Beaumont.

GIRLS SOCCER

PN-G 11, OZEN 0

PORT NECHES — Eleven different Port Neches-Groves Lady Indians found the back of the net Friday against the Ozen Lady Panthers.

The Lady Indians defeated the Lady Panthers 11-0 to improve to 8-5-1 overall and 3-2 in District 22-5A play.

Hailey Loupe, Bailey Tran, Grace Seymour, Bailey Quinn, Libbie LeJeune, Jillian Flores, Camryn Prosen, Kayla Reed, Mackenzie Tindel and Kacie Wallace all scored for PN-G.

Mia Delgadillo and Flores each had two assists while Reed, Mikayla Johnson, Tindel and Tran each had one.

The Lady Indians play at Central Tuesday.

NEDERLAND 4, BAYTOWN LEE 0

BAYTOWN — Madison Ledet continued her streak of goals in District 22-5A with two scores Friday.

Ledet’s two scores led the Nederland Lady Bulldogs to a 4-0 win over Baytown Lee.

Meg Sheppard and Tatum Kieschnick each scored a goal for the Lady Bulldogs (9-2-1, 4-0-1).

The Lady Bulldogs host Goose Creek Memorial Tuesday.
