NEDERLAND — The Nederland Police Department issued a statement regarding a possible meeting of a pro-rape group to be held at Doornbos Park this weekend.

“The organizers of the meeting advocate the legalization of rape. Rape is a despicable act of violence against women, men, and children, and the suggestion that this act should be legalized is morally reprehensible and sickening. The City will continue to monitor plans for this possible meeting and asks the public to refrain from confronting any individual who attends the meeting. The City believes this organization is seeking notoriety so the lack of public attendance would serve to diminish their publicity. Finally, we ask the public to remember that Doornbos Park is and will remain a safe location for families and children to enjoy,” according to the press release.
