Man killed while checking tire, suspect charged with possible intoxication manslaughter

BEAUMONT — A man checking a flat tire was struck by a vehicle and killed Sunday and the driver charged with possible intoxication manslaughter Sunday night in Beaumont.

Beaumont Police were called to the 300 block of Interstate 10 at about 10 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 24 in reference to the incident, according to a press release from the Beaumont Police Department.

A driver traveling westbound reportedly changed lanes and struck the man. The victim, identified as Clifton Meadows, 25, was transported to Christus Hospital-St. Elizabeth in Beaumont where he died from his injuries.

The driver of the suspect vehicle, identified as Kendrick McCloney, 27, was placed under arrest for possible intoxication manslaughter.

The victim’s wife was also injured in the crash and was admitted to the hospital.
