  • The Mid-Jefferson County Aggie Moms will host their monthly meeting at 6:30 p.m. Jan. 5 at Wesley United Methodist Church, 3515 Helena Ave. in Nederland.
  • YMCA of Port Arthur will host a LifeShare Blood Center drive from 3-7 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 5,  in the Social Hall.  Blood supplies are critically low due to the holidays and recent disasters.  Snacks will be provided after donation. You must bring a photo ID to donate blood.
  • Hebert Public Library, “Spanish Conversation” class on Tuesday, Jan. 5, 11 a.m. at 2025 Merriman St. in Port Neches. Know some Spanish and want to practice speaking with others? Although the class was designed for “graduates” of the library’s recent Beginner Spanish class, our weekly Spanish conversation get-together is open to anyone.

  • Gulf Coast Soccer registration for boys and girls ages 3 to 18 for the spring 2016 season will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 9, at Central Mall in front.   • Spindletop-Gladys City Boomtown Museum, on the Lamar University campus, will mark the 115th anniversary of the Lucas Gusher at Spindletop. The Drillers Reunion will take place on Saturday, Jan. 9, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Re-enactments performed by the Big Thicket Outlaws and music will be provided by the Traveling Murphys. Demonstrations of blacksmithing, printing, soap making and wood carving. The museum’s Lucas Gusher Re-enactment at 10:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. Admission $5 for adults, $3 for Seniors and $2 for children 12 and younger.   • Delta Theta Chapter of The Delta Kappa Gamma Society International will meet Monday, Jan. 11, at 4:30 in the parlor of First Baptist Church in Groves. President Karol Denby will preside and the program will be presented by Linda Harrison and Lynne James. Refreshments will be prepared by Elisa Breuer (chairman), Jennifer Fecowycz, Lynne Hollomon, Lynne James, Mary Jane Moore, and Julie Weeks. The nominations committee will announce the 2016-2018 slate of officers.   • Hebert Public Library, “Play Chess” on Monday, Jan 11, 1 p.m. (adults) and 4 p.m. (youth) at 2025 Merriman St. in Port Neches. Meet other chess fans and play on one of our three tournament-size boards with weighted pieces. Or bring your own chess set. All levels are welcome, but the group will probably skew toward beginners.
