No injuries in two separate Port Arthur house fires

Port Arthur Fire Department was busy with two house fires before midnight Friday.

Firefighters responded to the first of the two house fires shortly after 11 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 31 in the 6000 block of Buckner Drive. The two-story home is in the El Vista area of the city, PAFD Capt. Robert Miller said.

Upon arrival, flames were showing near the chimney on the roof.

Red Cross has been called for assistance to the family.

A second house fire occurred around midnight Friday, Jan. 1 at a home in the 1600 block of Sixth Street.

Miller said a grandfather and his granddaughter occupied the home but only the grandfather was at home at the time of the fire. The man was able to get out of the home and no injuries were reported.

When firefighters arrived flames were coming through the roof at the garage area of the house. The garage is a total loss and some damage occurred inside the structure.
