BASKETBALL ROUNDUP: Titans take 1 of 2 in Montgomery

MONTGOMERY — The day began great for Port Arthur Memorial in the Streater-Smith/Schurr Insurance Tournament on Friday.

Memorial snapped a three-game losing streak with a 67-52 win over Waller in the losers’ bracket of the tournament. The Titans raced to a 15-5 first-quarter lead and did not fall behind the rest of the way to win.

Thailan Wesley scored 16 points and Tim Jean netted 11 for the Titans.

But later that evening, A&M Consolidated of College Station edged Memorial 70-69, costing the Titans (4-8) a shot at the consolation title this morning. The Titans outscored A&M 21-9 in the final quarter, but came up short.

Darion Chatman netted 16 points and Tim Jean had 11 for the Titans, who will play at 10:30 a.m. today.
