MONTGOMERY — Two days after Port Arthur Memorial coach Kenneth Coleman said he saw the fight in his team he was looking for against Beaumont Central, the Titans went out to a slow start Thursday against Waco Midway.
Despite 21 points from Thailan Wesley, the Titans fell into a 35-20 halftime hole and could not recover as Midway marched to a 73-59 first-round win in the Streater-Smith/Schurr Insurance Tournament. The loss sent Memorial to a losers’ bracket game against Waller at 2 p.m. Friday. With a win, Memorial will play in the losers’ bracket semifinals at 6:30 Friday. A loss will put the Titans in a game at 9 a.m. Saturday.
Darion Chatman added 10 points for the Titans (3-7) Thursday.
