BASKETBALL ROUNDUP: Memorial girls slide by Westside

HOUSTON — The Port Arthur Memorial Lady Titans were able to slip past Houston Westside on Wednesday evening behind 17 points from Jakeira Ford.

Ford also collected nine rebounds for the Lady Titans, who won 57-54.

Memorial (7-6) shot 39 percent from the field in the game, leading 14-9 after the first period and trailing 29-25 at the break.

The Lady Titans got two points back during the third period and then outscored Westside 20-15 in the fourth to secure the victory.

Victoria Brown added 13 points for the Lady Titans to go with three assists, while Teliah Joyce had eight points and Autumn Jones finished with seven points.

Ford also had five steals.

Kennedi Lofton finished with six rebounds for the Lady Titans.

Memorial outrebounded Westside 30-11.

The Lady Titans next opponent is the Beaumont West Brook Lady Bruins to start the District 21-6A campaign at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 15.

Port Neches-Groves 45, Bridge City 40

PORT NECHES — The Port Neches-Groves Indians survived a four-point first period Tuesday and defeated the Bridge City Cardinals.

PN-G outscored Bridge City 4-1 in the first and went on to win 45-40 to improve to 3-4 on the season. Bridge City is now 3-5.

PN-G, led by Ryan Abel’s 11 points and 10 rebounds, led Bridge City 18-11 at the break and took a 33-21 lead into the fourth. Bridge City then won the fourth 19-12 to close the gap.

Ryan Mirabella scored 11 points for the Cardinals.

PN-G takes on Beaumont Kelly at 6 p.m. Friday in Beaumont.
