LSC-PA sports information

The Lamar State College-Port Arthur Seahawks men’s basketball team will drive to Corsicana today to take on Navarro College in a conference game. But for the first time, fans will be able to catch them on the air.

The Seahawks have been broadcast live via the Internet over the past several years as PSN Sports Network streams video of LSC-PA’s conference games each season. Now the Hawks add Sports Radio Beaumont AM 1450/AM 1510 to its offerings for fans wanting to keep up with the Blue and White.

“This is a great opportunity for our program to broaden its fan base by offering another way to stay up to date with the men’s basketball team,” LSCPA Director of Athletics Scott Street said. “The agreement with Sports Radio Beaumont is another step forward for our goal of involving more Southeast Texans in the Seahawks sports experience.”

Larry Cooper, the voice of the Seahawks for PSN Sports, will provide his audio feed to Sports Radio Beaumont for 15 dates, starting with tonight’s game against the 7-6 Navarro College. The Bulldogs are undefeated in NJCAA Region 14 play at 4-0.

Sports Radio Beaumont has evolved over the past several years from broadcasting syndicated material from the CBS Radio Network to becoming hyper-local with its coverage of youth, high school and college sports in Southeast Texas.

“It has really taken off,” said Mike Langley, program director for Sport Radio Beaumont. “We have the attitude that this is the people’s station. We cover local sports because that’s what people want to hear. Adding the Seahawks to our lineup was a no-brainer.”

Elizabeth Blackstock, vice president for the Gulf Coast region for Cumulus Radio, explained that adding the Seahawks program to the Beaumont Sports Radio lineup is a winning situation for all involved.

“This is good for the station, good for the fans, good for our advertisers and good for the college,” she said. “Everyone wins across the board. I feel like this is the start of a great relationship between Cumulus and Lamar State College-Port Arthur.”

The Seahawks, who are 6-4 overall and 2-2 in conference play, picked up a big league win this past Saturday afternoon with an 82-77 decision over Tyler Junior College. Tonight’s game, with the pregame broadcast starting at 6:30 p.m.

The live video feed is available at the college’s athletics website, http://athletics.lamarpa.edu.

The game against Navarro concludes the Seahawks’ play leading up to the annual holiday break with games resuming for the Dec. 30-31 Seahawks New Year’s Classic, which will take place at the Carl Parker Center. The annual event features LSC-PA, Seminole State (Oklahoma) College, Lone Star College-Cy Fair and Mineral Area (Missouri) College.

Schedules for the men’s basketball and women’s softball programs, along with broadcast schedules, are available at the college’s athletics website.
