Edwin Joseph “E. J.” Romero, Jr., 81, of Port Arthur passed away on Friday, November 27, 2015 at the Medical Center of Southeast Texas.

E. J. was born on October 3, 1934 to Ismay Deslatte Romero and Edwin Joseph Romero, Sr. in Port Arthur, Texas. He has been a lifelong resident of Port Arthur. E. J. graduated from Bishop Byrne High School-St. Mary in 1953. His education continued over the years through his job. He retired as the Director of Public Works for the City of Port Arthur with 41 years of service. After his retirement, he became a consultant for the City of Port Arthur that lasted 14 years. E. J.’s love and devotion to his family was everything to him.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Mary Dean Pampolina, his two brothers, Darrell and Jerry Romero.

E. J. is survived by his loving wife of almost 62 years, Mary Jean Holmes Romero of Port Arthur, his daughter, Janet Cholette and her husband, Bob of Nederland, his son, Nicky Romero and his wife, Ruth of Port Neches, his four grandchildren, Angie Monroe of Nederland, Molly Anders and her husband, Doug of Austin, Mallori Diaz de Leon and her husband, Dave of New Braunfels, Mason Romero and his wife, Jamie of Humble, seven great grandchildren, Avery Monroe, Abby Monroe, Arley Monroe, Hannah Diaz de Leon, Catherine Diaz de Leon, Emi Diaz de Leon and Roman Anders. He is also survived by his sister, Dianne Norris of Nederland, numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be on Sunday, November 29, 2015 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM with a rosary to be prayed at 6:00 PM at Clayton Thompson Funeral Home in Groves. Funeral service will be at 10:00 AM Monday, November 30, 2015in the Thompson Memorial Chapel at Clayton Thompson. Entombment will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park.
